Our Registered Dieticians from C&J Nutrition, worked very closely with us to create a beneficial drink that not only tastes delicious but serves a purpose! By including RD’s in our process, we ended up with a product that is not only practical and tasty but genuinely fills a nutrition need for pregnant and breastfeeding women. We worked as a team until we all agreed we had a product that tasted amazing and that Willow and Stephanie felt met their ideal nutrition standards while giving a boost of energy and reducing morning sickness. The healthy mama® team carefully worked to ensure the best ingredients with the most benefits! Read what Willow and Stephanie have to say about it… Added sugar: It was important to us to keep the sugar at no greater than 13 grams as this is about half of what is recommended each day by the American Heart Association and also fits into the recommendations for acceptable targets for the food industry created by Harvard University. We also wanted some of the sugar to come from fruit concentrate so it would deliver a juicy flavor along with a hint of sweet. B-Vitamins: We wanted to provide an alternative to drinks containing caffeine- In the first and third trimesters, pregnant women tend to drag and could really use a boost. That’s why Boost It Up! contains 50% of daily recommended values for Vitamins B6 and B12. Protein: Each bottle contains around the amount of protein that we’d recommend a woman try to fit into a snack — the protein equivalent to about an ounce of lean protein, 2 tablespoons of nut butter, or an ounce of cheese. Since daily protein needs increase by 25 grams during pregnancy as well as during breastfeeding, we wanted to ensure that sipping a bottle of Boost it Up!™ would provide at least 25% of the additional daily protein needs. And it’s a protein boost that can be achieved while holding or nursing a new baby. Ginger: While ginger chew candy are typically what women reach for when morning sickness and nausea strike during pregnancy, we wanted Boost it Up!™ to offer up a good dose of ginger for its ability to reduce nausea as well as its hydration benefits. This made sense, since if a woman has been vomiting and/or experience symptoms of morning sickness she needs additional hydration. Hydration: The water and electrolytes in Boost it Up!™ help a mama to stay adequately hydrated during pregnancy as well as helping a new mom meet her hydration needs during breastfeeding. Staying hydrated during pregnancy can help alleviate fluid retention and electrolytes can help reduce leg cramps. During breastfeeding, staying hydrated is also critical. Fiber: Including fiber in a beverage is challenging but it was important for a beverage for expecting and new moms. Many women do not meet their daily fiber needs and combining a hydrating beverage with a fiber boost was a great way to support a healthy digestive system and help avoid the dreaded constipation. Calories: Boost it Up!™ is low enough in calories (80 calories per 12fl oz) that it can be paired with a calcium-rich food like yogurt, milk, cheese, or a dairy alternative or a high fiber food like berries, whole grain crackers, or veggies to create a heartier, snack without going overboard on calories.

Boost it Up! ™ is a great option for mamas experiencing morning sickness. If you are feeling sick you may be dehydrated and instead of opting for high sugar beverages with empty calories, Boost it Up! ™ offers a refreshing, nutritious option. Some pregnant women who experience nausea may not be getting enough protein. Boost it Up! ™ provides 7 grams of protein. Also, Boost it Up! ™ Mango has ginger, which has been clinically proven to help reduce nausea.
During pregnancy and nursing , the amount of protein your body needs increases – many women find it challenging to get all the protein required, especially if they’re feeling nauseated. Providing 7 grams of protein helps to reach the recommended goal of 70 g per day.
For pregnant women, dietary fiber is an especially beneficial component of a balanced diet. A pregnant woman should be getting about 25 grams of dietary fiber per day. Adding dietary fiber to your diet can decrease constipation and lower blood pressure. Increasing your dietary fiber during the first trimester may also reduce pregnancy risks. A report in the American Journal of Hypertension found that increasing the amount of fiber in the diet of study participants reduced the risk of preeclampsia (a potentially fatal condition caused by elevated blood pressure).
Vitamin D is an important nutrient for pregnant and nursing women. It is an essential vitamin for mom and baby. Vitamin D helps with bone development for baby and may help with your immune function. Many women do not get their daily recommended value and Boost it Up! ™ Pom Cherry is another source. You should check with your healthcare provider to find out how much is recommended for you. Visit our partner, American Pregnancy Association, to learn more about the importance of Vitamin D.
Gatorade often has dyes, high sugar and sodium and is not all natural. We recommend you check with your healthcare provider. Boost it Up!™ can be a healthy alternative.
