Who needs Vitamin K anyway?

Wait, vitamin K come back here we didn’t mean it, we really need you! Vitamin K and Nursing

So does our baby!

While you’re pregnant, having some balance in your vitamin intake is important and ensuring you’re getting enough of the appropriate vitamins and minerals including Vitamin K is critical. Vitamin K during breastfeeding is essential and you most likely will hear some suggestions about introducing some Vitamin K into their systems from day one. Although rare, some newborns are Vitamin K deficient and develop a life threatening bleeding disorder known as Hemorrhagic Disease of the Newborn.

During pregnancy it’s not uncommon for your baby not to be getting enough vitamin K and even through breastfeeding once they’re born.

Vitamin K During breastfeeding

In fact, almost every doctor will mention Vitamin K deficiency at birth and recommend a vitamin injection or a vitamin K drop taken orally just to be safe. Increasing your vitamin K intake during your pregnancy and while you’re breastfeeding is a good preventative step nonetheless.

Breastfeeding in general is tough on our recovering bods and having some extra vitamins in our system keeps us at peak performance and dishing up vitamin-rich breast milk for our littles.
